why do my email correspondents so often conclude “take care”, when they don’t really care if a double-decker bus kills me on the way home? The seeming care contains a lack of respect which is infuriating.



Is it any different to the cordial greeting ‘How are you doing?’ or saying ‘Bless you!’ when someone sneezes?
I grew up with ‘Take care now’ being part of a number of parting phrases.
Its a social handshake. Pointless but necessary.
