so, its been almost a month since I started blogging. How time flies when you’re addicted to Google Analytics.
Two things have happened recently that make me really feel like a *proper* blogger.
- I was out for a beer or two with the lovely Melissa and on several occasions sentences started with ‘aahhh, yes! I was just talking about that on my blog the other day!’. I think I’ve got to stop doing that and fast. I can’t think of any way you can say something like that without sounding like a complete dork.
- I got my first comment spam! I must be a real blogger now.
Its been interesting to start to negotiate my own blogging style. As Melissa & I were discussing last night, there are lots of different types of bloggers. I’m not really interested in trying to be one of the first people to say ‘hey, look, here’s a new thing, here’s a link’ rinse, repeat x 25. I find these bloggers really valuable… but its not what I want my blog to be. I’m to opinionated and talk too much for that.
On the other hand, you have bloggers who are real artisans, who develop their posts so carefully. You’ll never find a typo and their grammar is great. Their posts are gorgeously structured and so well thought out. They post every couple of days, maybe every couple of weeks. They’re great and, again, I benefit greatly from these kind of bloggers… when I grow up I might be one of these.
At the moment, I have too many things I want to talk about! I have a backlist of posts to write, and although I feel as though I probably *should* spend a bit more time on each posts, make them a little more thorough, edit and copy edit them… I just don’t have the time for that right now. Right now I’d rather get something out that’s a little half-arsed (see, an artisan blogger would never use that term!) and move onto the next thing rather than labour over a single post, working it as close to perfection as possible.
Given that I’m not putting all that effort in, I suspect that my posts are probably a little too long… not quite enough quality for the effort required to get to the end of them…
And on that note, I’m going to wrap up this extended navel gaze and get back to it. I wasn’t sure, when I started, whether I’d be enthusiastic about this for a week or two and then let it tail off as the novelty wore off… I don’t think so. I think I’ll stick around for a bit. At least until I get all those draft posts written. Stay tuned :)
