You absolutely have to do audio! I would really like to "hear" more about this.

You mentioned one variable I find central to this "intimacy" discourse - regularity. What's interesting is that regularity doesn't mean consistent intervals, which is what brings up another aspect of this: sense of wonder and discovery. I am thrilled to see a new picture on Flickr or a new Twitter message. I know it's going to happen, I'm not sure who will post it or if it will be interesting, but just knowing that it WILL happen (regularity) is a big driver for the success of this dynamic in my mind.

I'd like to hear what you explicitly meant by "allow for time shifting".

[...] October 5th, 2007 Spent yesterday at Future of Web Apps Expo (to give it it’s full name) down in Docklands. Some great presentations with the traditional FOWA sprinkle of corporate sponsor sales pitches (although kudos for Adobe’s stressing of third-party applications to develop AIR apps). Leisa Reichhelt explained her concept of Ambient Intimacy (something to which I tend to feel very remote given my lack of understanding/interest in Twitter or it’s imitators) and Erika Hall’s case for copy being part of the interface was an amusing reminder of how important a part of user experience your tone is.
